This December, we went on a trip to Esker for a personal development day. The trip was organised by Ms. Shaugnessy and Ms. Sherry. It was a great experience for all involved.
We arrived at 10 O'Clock, and were split into two groups of about 30 people each. We started the day with some icebreakers (a game called 'Fruit Salad', a speech by one of the staff members, and an exercise where we give ourselves alliterating adjectives e.g Awesome Alex). After that was over, we wrote on sheets what positive traits we have a lot of, we have a little of, and which we want to have.
At around half 11, we met in the hall for biscuits and hot drinks. Pictures are included below.
After the break, we created posters that showed our relationships with other people visually, e.g if we had a close relationship with someone, there was a short line between their name and ours. We then discussed our maps and why we showed our relationships the way we did.
This exercise was followed by a longer break, where we were allowed to wander Esker and play sports.
Finally, we watched a movie called 'The Butterfly Circus' which was a film starring Nick Vujicic. It was about how we can take the traits we see as negative, and turn them into something positive that makes us unique. We then discussed the film and how it changed our opinion of ourselves.
After the movie, we headed back to Headford, with a short break in Supermac's.
