Italy Trip
By Ava
Tuesday:
We left for Italy on Monday the 4th at 11:30 at night. We got a bus from the school and made our way to Dublin Airport. It was the first time I had traveled alone but being with my friends and classmates eased my stresses. Once we arrived in Rome Airport we got straight onto the bus for another 2 hours of travelling until we reached the Olive and Lemon grove. We were given local foods and pizza as well as a nutella one. We were also shown a demonstration of how mozzarella is made. After that it was back into the bus for the rest of the way to Hotel Ripetta where we could settle in and recover from the busy day we had.
Wednesday:
We got up early despite our long travelling the day before as breakfast was served at 8:00 in the morning. We were due to climb Mt. Vesuvius and then a get a tour of Pompeii. The weather was fine yet upon arriving to the base of Mt. Vesuvius I became thankful of the scarf and gloves I had brought. The first half of the climb was quite steep which was difficult, yet once we got to the crater you were at ease to admire the views and buy souvenirs from the local shops on the top of the mountain. I couldn't resist take plenty of photos!
When we made it to the bottom of the mountain we headed to a local restaurant where the bus driver had found a deal to get our food at €10 each. The pizza was delicious! We then arrived at Pompeii and met our tour guide that would be teaching us about the history of the area. After the educational tour we were shown to a small gift shop where people could purchase things from a fancy pencil to a bust.
Thursday:
We got up at the same time as the day before. Today we would be heading to Naples for a day of shopping and I was looking forward to it. Naples is said to be the worse for pick pocketing but other then running into some questionable people, we were safe and sound. Naples was beautiful and contained many shops as well as old buildings. After some extensive shopping my friends and I took a breather by a fountain in the square. We were fortunate to meet a cute dog who's owner allowed us to play with her.
When we got to the hotel we had dinner and afterwards Ms. Flanagan and Ms. Gibbons organised a " talent show" of sorts. We all gathered in a seating area next to the lobby and started a sing song, some people sand solo, in groups and then we ended the night singing songs like " Country Roads" and some Irish classics that I had been scolded for not knowing them.
Friday:
We gathered all our luggage on Friday morning as this was our last day here. We hit the road Rome bound after breakfast. While we were waiting on our bus to get to Rome we started debating what it was that we wanted to see. We took a vote on weather we would visit the Colosseum or St. Peter's Square. Surprisingly and unfortunately the vote came out 12 vs 12. After more bickering we decided that we would try see both which we did.
When we arrived it was a fast pace sight-seeing race. We saw the Trevi Fountain, The Spanish Steps, The Colosseum and St. Peter's Square. I was on streak taking pictures left, right and center ( taking photos requests from some of my classmates also) until my camera ran out of battery! We then had a run back to where our bus should be, with a lot of help from Ms. Gibbons G.P.S.
Thanks to all the teachers efforts we made it to the airport in one piece and passed through customs without problem (almost). We had time to unwind in the airport since our flight was delayed a bit. We then arrived back in Ireland 11:30pm and got t the school at 3:00am in the morning!
Without a doubt I won't forget about this trip for a long time to come. It has hands down been my favorite part of TY!
