My Musical Experience as a Male Lead
By Josh
It was just beyond amazing. I mean, there’s no feeling like it! For practically two months, you just ate, slept and breathed the musical. I mean you couldn’t get it out of your head; you’d be eating your dinner and then start humming: "Whip crack away, whip crack away, whip crack away" So, of course it was so weird going back to a normal schedule and that whole part of your life is just gone! But you can still think back on all the memories and the laughs.
Learning all of the choreography, and lyrics, and lines and all that jazz is a bit of a nightmare for everyone at the beginning. . . but then you just kind of get into it. You start making friends left and right, and it’s just so unique in that way – how it brings together people you wouldn’t normally talk to!
With my own experience, going to all the practices and stuff is always such a laugh. It can be a bit stressful at times when you think about the bigger picture… and how you all have to stand up on a stage, in front of everyone you know, and act the fool. But when you get in that mind-set, you have to tell yourself that everyone is in the same boat. The same, crazy boat filled with cowboys. Then you’re good to go!
Lastly, if I had to pick a favourite scene… hmm, I would have to go with the argument between ‘Calamity’ and Bill, and then the whole of ‘Secret Love’! Every time it got to the kiss… and then the song… I was in pure BITS. My god, I was struggling to keep it together – Maille and Adam did a fantastic job! How can you beat it?!
