Cycle from Mulranny to Newport
By Katie
On the 21/09/2018 the Transition Years of Pch went to the Greenway cycle. The Greenway is a 42km almost entirely traffic free cycling free and walking trail in county Mayo.
Travelling the Greenway you are surrounded by idyllic countryside. Around the area you can see the spectacular Nephin Beg mountain range and across Clew Bay to Croagh Patrick.
The Ty students traveled up to Mulranny Hotel to begin their cycle. At the back of the hotel to collect their bikes and begin their journey. We only had to cycle 18km out of the full 42km, from Mulranny to Newport.
We had to go through many cattle grates and gates along the way. The land was mainly flat, with occasional steep hills and tight turns. Part of the cycle was on the edge of the main road.
Once we had completed the cycle, we got to stop off at the shop and buy food and drinks before heading back to school.
The cycle was a very fun trip and was a great bonding experience for the Ty students as it was our first trip as a group.
